SWALEC Plate round twoCilfynydd RFC 28 Mold RFC 13

CILFYNYDD welcomed North Wales Division Four side Mold to the Welfare ground and achieved a very well deserved victory, with the Cilfynydd pack in complete control.

The game started with Cilfynydd on all out attack and after just three minutes full-back Lee Goddard opened their account with a penalty.

Mold, although struggling to get any proper possession, looked dangerous with ball in hand and from an attack down field and against the run of play a very unlucky bounce saw the visitors score an opportunist try to make it 3-5 after 12 minutes.

After 15 minutes full-back Goddard put Cilfynydd back in front with another penalty goal to make it 6-5, this was again equalled by Mold after 24 minutes when they scored with a penalty.

Cilfynydd upped their game at this point and started to put together some good passing movements, and with forwards and backs combining they attacked the Mold line.

From an attacking scrum the ball was quickly fed to outside half Sion Griffiths who crashed over at the posts.

The conversion was added by Goddard to make it 13-8 at half-time.

The second half began like the first with Cilfynydd on the attack and as with the first, their first score came from the boot of fGoddard.

The Cilfynydd scrum were now in complete control, driving the Mold eight back at every scrummage, and when Cilfynydd were awarded a penalty they opted for a scrum some 10 metres out.

As the Cilfynydd pack drove the, Mold eight crumbled and their superb number eight Simon Whyncop was on hand to drop on the ball for a great forwards try.

Goddard added the conversion.

But Mold hit back with a good try after 70 minutes to make it 23-13.

From the restart Cilfynydd threw everything into attack and following a very good passing movement down field wing Nicky Graham was on hand to accept the final pass and dive over in the corner.

That was the last score, and the game ended 28-13.

The Cilfynydd team can all be pleased with their performance with number eight Simon Whyncop and wing forwards Andrew Edwards and Huw Wright all having awesome games.

The second row pairing of James Edwards and Sion Ware worked well together and were both very prominent around the field.

Cilfynydd captain Lee Griffiths at emergency scrum half had a very solid game and full back Lee Goddard covered and tackled well all game.
